Cooking Fresh Maine Blue Mussels
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds live blue mussels
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Rinse the mussels in cold water and discard any that are open or have cracked shells.
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant.
- Add the white wine to the pot and bring to a simmer.
- Add the mussels to the pot and cover with a lid. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened.
- Remove the pot from the heat and discard any mussels that have not opened.
- Stir in the chopped parsley and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the mussels in the pot with some of the cooking liquid and crusty bread for dipping.
Note: Blue mussels can also be cooked in a variety of other ways, such as steaming, grilling, or baking. Be sure to follow the specific recipe instructions for the cooking method you choose. Additionally, you can add other ingredients to the recipe, such as chopped tomatoes, onions, or chorizo, to create a flavorful broth.
